Talking Christmas with Monica Burns author of A Bluestocking Christmas
Today I would like to welcome Bestselling author of spicy historical and paranormal romance, Monica Burns. She’s here today to talk about her latest Novella A Bluestocking Christmas. With Christmas just around the corner why not start of the holidays with a steamy historical paranormal romance.
Monica, we are honored to have you here with us today.
Monica: Thanks for having me. I love visiting with readers across the internet.
Vikki: What inspired you to write A Bluestocking Christmas?
Monica: A Bluestocking Christmas is a back list book from when I was first published by an ePub. I love books (go figure LOL), and I wanted to see what I could do with a ghost and a hero who uses words to make the heroine submit to him. I also wanted to try to put a new spin on the Christmas Carol story. I like to think I did so with a really interesting twist.
Vikki: Can you tell us a little about the characters in A Bluestocking Christmas?
Monica: Simon is an alpha male who’s convinced Ivy is up to no good, insults her with allegations that she’s a social climber and looking for a rich husband. Oh, and yes, he propositions her while insulting her. When Simon discovers Ivy isn’t who he thought she was, he realizes the only way to capture her heart is by using words. Words from books
Ivy lost her parents at a young age was and was forced to live with her aunt and uncle who spurned Ivy because her father was a commoner. Their mistreatment of Ivy makes her loathe the nobility. Simon’s initial behavior only reinforces her belief that he’s no different than any other nobleman. But Simon works hard to change her mind as he uses words from great works of literature to seduce her.
Vikki: If you could go back and revisit a period of time in your past, what timeframe would you revisit?
Monica: Hmm….I have two time periods actually, and only if I were a man. Victorian England and Ancient Rome
Vikki: What’s your favorite part of the Christmas holiday?
Monica: In my family, the holidays are a huge deal. We have a slew of traditions we follow. I think it’s the traditions in general that are my favorite part of the holiday. Doing the daily Advent calendar, cookies and hot cocoa after our in-home Advent service every Sunday, the fun of wrapping a small present in larger boxes, the scent of apples, cinnamon, and oranges bubbling away in a small pot on the stove. But out of all of these things, I think just sitting quietly in our living room looking at the multicolored lights on our 6ft Christmas tree with all the ornaments we’ve accumulated over the years. Long story to the short, but that’s all I got. LOL
Vikki: Favorite Christmas story and why?
Monica: It would be easy to put a stock answer here, but I’m far too honest for that. I don’t have a favorite Christmas story.
Vikki: What advise you would give aspiring writers?
Monica: Learn the rules of writing. Actually, they’re just guidelines, but you have to learn them to hone your craft. Once you know the “rules,” toss them out the window and break the rules left and right. Finally, write for yourself first, your readers second and NEVER ever write to a trend, unless you’re a fast writer, otherwise you’ll miss the wave.
Vikki: Thank you so much Monica for stopping by today. Best of luck on your book tour.
Monica: Thanks for having me.
Book Blurb:
Sinful words, wicked pleasures and a ghost all add up to A Bluestocking Christmas with a Dickens of a twist. As a young man, Simon, Viscount Wycombe learned the painful truth that a tradesman’s daughter is suitable only for liaisons and nothing more. But Ivy Beecham is a far cry from his preconceived notions, and he’s determined to have her. But when she rejects him, it only increases his determination to seduce her into a world of sin and pleasure.
Ivy Beecham knows first-hand that handsome aristocrats like Simon can’t be trusted. But the intellectual scoundrel is hellbent on making her his mistress, using every means at his seductive disposal. When she refuses to give away her heart on Christmas Eve, a ghostly specter shows her in one night why her surrender can be the greatest gift of all.
