What a surprise to have Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Historical Romance author Coreene Callahan with us today. Coreene is the Bestselling author of the Dragonfury Novels and Circle of Seven series. Today we’re celebrating her new release Warrior’s Revenge. This is a new project for her; I can’t wait to check it out!
Here’s a blurb…
After the death of her parents, Lady Aurora de Marquise is left with no illusions. Stripped of her birthright and betrayed by her uncle, escape is her only option. With her life on the line, she narrowly avoids another murder attempt—only to run headlong into Lord Brigham de Mornay, a man most consider a monster.
With her uncle’s henchmen nipping at her heels, Aurora knows better than to trust a stranger—especially one as compelling as Brigham. Well-honed instincts urge her to flee before his abundant charm takes a nasty turn into aggression—and she ends up neck deep in trouble.
Wary, but undeniably drawn to him, Aurora pits her will against his, challenging his authority every chance she gets. But when her uncle manages to track her, the game of fox and hound takes a perilous turn and she is left with the ultimate choice—surrender to the man who now holds her heart or risk it all trying to escape again.
Gritty and fast-paced, Warrior’s Revenge brings to life the magnificence of the medieval age while exploring the meaning of honor, duty, and nature of true love.
Warriors Revenge Trailer
With today being the release day for Warrior’s Revenge, I thought it would be fun to talk about warriors. In her books, Coreene writes her heroes as warriors, whether it be Dragonfury or assassin, they are warriors in true form. So, what is it about warriors that we love? Is it their loyalty? Is it the battles they fight for the greater good? Maybe it’s the way they claim their women, or the magical lands in which they dwell?
So, let’s ask Coreene … Why do we love warriors so much?
Vikki: Thank you so much for being here today Coreene.
Coreene: Hi Everyone! It’s great to be here with you today! A huge thanks to Vikki for the invitation! I never get tired of talking about warriors, so this is a real treat for me.
Vikki: What is it about a warrior that intrigues you?
Coreene: In a word…everything. Strong men intrigue me. No matter how Alpha Male they are, I prefer them. Not because of their tendency to takeover a situation and try to fix things. Quite the opposite, in fact. A strong man isn’t intimidated by a strong woman—one with thoughts, feelings, opinions all her own—and will allow her to shine, even if it sometimes means disregarding his own agenda. Which makes him loyal to a fault, tremendously protective, yet also able nurture the woman in his life. I love that kind of dichotomy, the push-pull of a dynamic relationship that allows him to put her needs before his own. I’m fascinated by the psychological fallout; the domino effect of how a man with a warrior-soul fulfills his own needs/wants/desires while respecting those of another.
Vikki: What qualities does the Heroine have to possess in order to claim her warrior?
Coreene: A number of things. Feistiness definitely tops the list. Intelligence too. A great sense of humor plays an important roll as well. She must be able to see the humor in a situation, yet still be ready to stand up for herself. Strength, after all, respects strength. Add fortitude and patience to the tally too. She needs both to know when to pull him close and when to cut him loose. Compassion is always a running theme in my books. If she can’t empathize and understand what he’s been through, she won’t be able to get through to him.
Vikki: Can you tell us what inspired you to write Warrior’s Revenge?
Coreene: I’ve known from an early age that I was a storyteller. It wasn’t something I questioned. I just KNEW it. But here’s the kicker, I avoided writing for a long time. I was so afraid to fail at the one thing I knew I was meant to do, I diverted my creative energy in other directions. I took it to extreme lengths…like getting an expensive design degree! So what forced me to turn around and face my fears?
After working at a busy interior design firm, I found myself at home with a newborn. Now here’s the thing about newborn babies…they sleep a lot (well, at least, my firstborn did) so I needed to fill the hours with something that fulfilled my creative drive and engaged my overactive imagination. With creative pressure building—and my need to write staring me in the face—I finally surrendered, and that’s how Warrior’s Revenge got written.
Vikki: Will Warrior’s Revenge be a series?
Coreene: I always planned for Warrior’s Revenge to be the first novel in a trilogy. There are a couple of really interesting secondary characters in the book that I would love to write. Camden’s one of them. You’ll see…he’s oh so hot! So yes. I’d like write a few more after Warrior’s Revenge. In fact, I call the series the Warriors of the Realm Series on my website!
Vikki: If you were stranded on a deserted Island, which one of your warriors would you bring with you and why?
Coreene: Oh man, I can only bring one? Really? Can’t do it. I don’t play favorites. I love them all!
Vikki: Do you listen to music when you write, if so what songs are on your play list?
Coreene: It depends. I never listened to music while writing until I started Fury of Desire (Dragonfury series, book 4). Right around the time I began to write Wick’s story, my husband changed jobs. Now he works from home…great on a lot of fronts. But I wasn’t accustomed to having anyone else in the house during the day, so it took me some time to adjust to the invasion and reclaim my writing mojo! Putting music on helped me do that, so now my iPod gets a workout everyday. But I keep the volume low, sort of like white noise in the background.
I’ve just recently started making playlists. Lots of fun! Here’s one I’ve been listening to a lot lately:
Hall of Fame – The Script
Forever Now – Ne-Yo
Catch My Breath – Kelly Clarkson
Counting Stars – OneRepublic
Slut Like You – P!NK
Mary Go Round –Serena Ryder
Two Black Cadillacs – Carrie Underwood
The Outsiders – Needtobreathe
Circle of the Sun –Serena Ryder
Vikki: Who are some of your favorite authors?
Coreene: I have a lot of different authors that I read on a regular basis. But I would have to say, one of my faves is Stephen King (although some of his stories scare the crap out of me!). I also enjoy: Kristen Higgins, Kallie Lane’s romantic-suspense, and anything from James Patterson’s Alex Cross Series, to name just a few.
Vikki: Ok…I’m going to give you one word and then you tell me the first word that comes into your mind…
Warrior – Strong.
Romance – Hot!
Dragon – Fascinating.
Fans – The best (oh, wait, that’s two words). Amazing! Fantastic! Supportive! Sorry, I just couldn’t stop with one. My readers are really and truly awesome!
